Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is a beef CSA?

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) allows people to purchase a ‘share’ of a farmer’s or rancher’s harvest. In our beef CSA this means local people can own ‘shares’ of the live animals dedicated to our CSA program. When harvested, the meat is allocated to the ‘share’ holders (customers) based on the reserved ‘share’ size. It is a value-oriented, convenient way to purchase quality beef all the while knowing where it came from, how the animal was raised and that it was grown with sustainable agriculture practices.

Where do I pick up?

Pick up for the quarter, half or full ‘share’ is in the greater Treasure Valley area. The address is given a week prior to pick up when the final balance is due.

Do I need to bring anything to pick up?

We recommend you bring a cooler(s) to put your meat into for transport to your residence. Boxes also work.

What if I am unable to pick up?

Arrangements can be made for a family member or friend to pick up your quarter, half or full beef ‘share’ within 48 hours if you are unavailable. Alternatively, we can deliver it to you for an additional fee.

What payment options do you offer?

We accept major credit cards, Venmo or check as a deposit on a ‘share’ and as payment for your final invoice.

Why does your beef taste so good?

Hard work and excellent care for starters. We have built our herd on a foundation of good cattle genetics and the animals thrive on isolated rangeland where there is an abundance of native grasses and fresh water from springs and snow melt.  The natural, low stress environment they live in and their ability to graze for miles brings out the best in cattle.

Is the meat frozen?

Yes. The meat is frozen solid at pick up and should not require further ice to transport to your residence if in the greater Treasure Valley.

How much freezer space do I need?

A full beef share typically requires about 18-19 cubic feet of freezer space.

A half beef share typically requires about 8-9 cubic feet of freezer space.

A quarter beef share typically requires about 5-6 cubic feet of freezer space.

Is your beef antibiotic, steroid and hormone free?

We only use antibiotics in life-threatening situations, which is rare. If an animal receives antibiotics as a treatment they are no longer part of our beef CSA program. Our animals are never given steroids or any hormones.

What is the difference between grassfed/grass finish and grassfed/grain finish beef?

Our grassfed/grass finish animals eat fresh grass, grass hay and alfalfa from our ranch along with Owyhee mountain forage until they are ready to harvest. They do not receive any grains ever. When it is harvest time, we drive them from our ranch to our local processors.

Our grassfed/grain finish animals eat fresh grass, grass hay and alfalfa from our ranch along with Owyhee mountain forage for the majority of their life.

The last 90-120 days before harvest, these animals are fed grass hay, alfalfa, and a ration of grain, all grown locally. This produces a consistent, classic marbled beef for those wanting more marbling in their beef. When they reach finish weight we drive them to our local processors.

Is your beef dry-aged?

Absolutely! This helps break down and dissolve the connective tissues and thus tenderizes the meat while enhancing the flavor.

Do you harvest your animals humanely?

All of our animals are harvested humanely at local USDA approved or Idaho state approved custom butcher facilities. Our butchers have years of experience and outstanding reputations in their profession.

My seasonal ‘share’ includes free delivery but when I check out it says pick up?

Our smaller seasonal ‘shares’ and ground beef Stock Up ‘share’ include free home delivery. We coordinate that directly with you.

Our check out system automatically fills in as pick up because we do not ever ship our product.

May I visit the ranch?

For now, we are not offering tours of the ranch but we do host local events from time to time in the Treasure Valley. We post information about events we will attend/host locally on Instagram and Facebook.
